Story County residents can dispose of yard waste at no charge during the Spring No-Charge Yard Waste Day planned for Saturday, April 26, at GreenRU, 400 Freel Drive. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This yard waste drop-off day will include both yard waste and brush up to 3-inches in diameter.

The Water and Pollution Control Department will host an open house at the Ames Water Treatment Plant, 1800 E. 13th St., from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. A modified open house will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. for those who prefer a quieter environment or have mobility issues.

The Public Works Department will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program on Wednesday, March 26. The first areas of hydrant flushing will take place in the central part of the city and in west Ames around the Ames Middle School area. Flushing takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
