Keeping our city beautiful is a top priority. You can help by picking up trash when you see it! The best and most impactful place to start is in your neighborhood. You're also encouraged to participate in the city's current litter initiatives.

In an effort to help reduce the amount of trash polluting our streams, lakes, and rivers, an anti-litter initiative has been coordinated by the Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership (ISWEP). Citizens of Ames are encouraged to join the effort. This campaign encourages you to pledge to pick up 24 pieces of litter on the 24rd of every month of 2024.

To pledge go to: 24on24

This is a long-term campaign to bring about behavioral change. The time it takes to pick up the litter around you can be minimal but will have a positive impact on the community. The campaign in 2025 will be 25on25, and so forth.

To help encourage participation, supplies (ie. garbage bags and gloves) are available for litter pick up efforts.  Contact Liz Calhoun (515)239-5575 or Liz.Calhoun@CityofAmes.org for supplies or more information.
